Holiday Hectic

This of course is the part of the year I dread it always seems a million things crop up during this time of year. My primary focus of late has been trying to recover from a bad career decision and relocation made last year. I'm in active job search and getting ready to take two exams and of course my car needed almost $700 in repairs along with various minor irritations. Thanksgiving is Thursday and I can't relish the thought of cooking all that stuff. Really, I'm not big on commercialism and the holidays which is ironic as I'm in the fine Bling biz. So I'm throwing stuff out and maybe something will stick and I can't get out of the south never to return. Doing some communication with headhunters which is really a production as you get put through the gauntlet which I think is overkill. It's not like I'm shopping a CEO placement really! You even read about these guys being total incompetent in many cases and they get outrageous salaries. If it works fine if not I'll move anyway and find my own job. One thing I won't do is sell myself short or commit to something I don't see long term opportunity in. If I go back to California I won't take marginal salary it cost a fortune to live there. Hopefully after the first part of next year I'll have a better indication of where I'm headed. As far as the bigger picture? hopefully the business climate and economy will stay stable? It's like 50/50 recession talk and housing crash especially in CA. Some bigger things you just have no control of . Right now? I have decide if I want to try again and trust things will go right this time around.

The New Civility

The smear and name calling has ended and the last votes tallied. Now the the sweep of the house and senate is in new hands we wait with baited breath. Now that the president received a clear message he has changed his bully stance. With Rumsfeld gone he cannot "stay the course" it cost the GOP the election. The coverage in the preceding days after the election shows a effort on the GOP to embrace a non partison approach to solution. This may just be the honeymoon period so I'm expect as time goes by there could be gridlock, veto, and bickering. One thing is clear the electorate now realises that when america is pushed in the wrong direction for too long we will demand change. Hopefully the new Democratic congress remembers that.

What will change?

Twelve years of a GOP dominated house and senate I don't have to remind you of that outcome. We the people yeah! remember us? sent a message to W yesterday. Time for him to listen to an opinion other than his own and the bad advice he is being fed daily by that incompetent team of advisers. Unless he wants writers cramp wielding that almighty veto pen he needs to think of the country for once not his rich cronies. Granted, we are still waiting for Montana and Virginia to tally it is a nail biter. It doesn't look good for the Reps to keep the senate. I think this was surely an anti- incumbent and GOP backlash election..

The issues too many and all important. I feel the middle class finally got tired of struggling more each year while we hear about the CEO's of the world recieving outrageous compensations. The GOP were throwing billions of dollars away spending our nation to the poor house. The evidence of social and financial inequity was growing faster each year. We want out of Iraq period! those dollars need to go to our domestic issues. Immigration oh don't get me started! First of all I am of hispanic heritage so for me this is not a racial issue. I think we should impose criminal penalties to companies that hire them. We don't need to exploit cheap slave labor when we have a struggling working class of native born citizens.

The issues of unaffordable housing, health care, college tuition, stagnant wages, high energy and gas were on my mind as I voted. I don't think I was alone in that respect as I have seen my own economic picture change. As I woke up early this morning I flipped by CNBC and they were all whining about the new congress and the adverse effect on big business and the investor elite. It appears they fear roll back of cap gains, dividend, and possible regulation of some sectors. If there wasn't so much corruption on wall street and the playing field was indeed level there would be nothing to fear.

I can only be optimistic and hope this can be the start of some positives for the nation. That we the electorate has seen what happens when they turn there back on those whom they serve. I thank the boys in Iraq for their sacrafice. I pray they can come back to a better nation full of opportunity for them, us, and their families.

Election day

Well if I had to start again on my blog this is the landmark day to do so. If any of you saw my initial commentary you know I have issues with the current economic issues and most especially the Housing crisis. For months I and my fellow Patrick.net HB bloggers have discussed many of the pertinent issues. I am a refugee from southern california pushed out by the ridiculous cost of living primarily housing. What used to be concidered a good living wage is lower middle class in alot of the west. Well the stakes are high tonight and hopefully the GOP will know that bifurcating the nation will not prevail. This current electorate has too long pandered to the investor class and big corporations. They tell us because the employment data numbers and stock market are doing well the economy is "great". Personally I am suspect of who compiles this data the man on the street just wants to feel it in his wallet. The bulk of the wealth has gone to the oil companies and big corporations in the last five years. We owe billions to the Chinese and other foreign investors we consume but produce far less than we did decades ago. Middleclass warfare is being waged and families are struggling more than anytime in recent history. This current Iraq fiasco is draining billions from the domestic economy and we've lost too many young people. People are tired of it in our living room every night not to mention the loss the families hvae to endure for years to come. My hope is that each one of us will do our civic duty and cast our ballot for change. I sent my absentee to california this week hopefully it got counted. It is we the people that make this country not arrogant politicians who don't serve our interest.
